The PilotSTRATEGY project (2021–2026), funded by the European H2020 program, assesses the feasibility of deep geological CO2 storage based on geological, technical, and socio-economic criteria. Its long-term goal is to support the development of CO2 storage sites in three key regions: the Lusitanian Basin (Portugal), the Ebro Basin (Spain), and the Paris Basin (France). The project provides essential inputs for regulatory and technical documentation required for pilot and demonstration storage in deep saline aquifers.
This extended abstract focuses on the Paris Basin, specifically the Brie Nangissienne area, 50 km southeast of Paris. The targeted Dogger carbonate reservoir, located at 1,800 m depth, offers significant CO₂ storage potential. A multidisciplinary French research team, comprising geologists, engineers, and social scientists from BRGM, Geostock, IFPEN, Pôle Avenia, and Symlog, is characterizing the reservoir and engaging with stakeholders. The project integrates geoscience, engineering, and social sciences to ensure a holistic approach to CO2 storage feasibility. By providing key insights, PilotSTRATEGY aims to support decision-making bodies in evaluating the potential development of a pilot CO2 storage site in the region.
