Abstract

Summary

Repurposing O&G wells for geothermal applications offers a cost-effective and sustainable pathway to scale up geothermal deployment. By prioritizing optimal well design during the planning phase, operators can minimize CAPEX, OPEX, and ABEX while de-risking projects and enhancing their long-term viability. This approach not only supports the growth of geothermal energy for both heating/cooling and power generation but also contributes to global energy security and climate change mitigation. As the world moves toward a low-carbon future, strategic well design will play a pivotal role in unlocking the full potential of geothermal energy and repurposing legacy oil and gas infrastructure for a sustainable energy transition.
