Abstract

Summary

Estimation of storage resource ranges is an important step when screening saline aquifers for CO2 storage. The overpressure generated by CO2 storage in a saline aquifer is an important limitation for the storage resources. Analytical aquifer models are a convenient and efficient tool for estimating probabilistic CO2 storage resource ranges under pressure constraints in saline aquifers using Monte-Carlo sampling techniques. We present a comprehensive methodology that applies pressure constraints at injection sites and within the regional connected aquifer to the resource range evaluation with analytic aquifer models. The methodology is designed for storage resource screening when development schemes and 3D simulation models are not yet defined.
