Abstract

Summary

This study presents the results of a transient electromagnetic (TEM) geophysical survey in Dollow, Somalia, aimed at identifying suitable sites for managed aquifer recharge (MAR). The survey, part of a broader UNICEF and partner initiative, assessed the subsurface conditions near the Dawa and Jubba Rivers to support future water resilience for displaced populations. A total of 721 TEM soundings revealed thick, laterally extensive alluvial deposits near the Dawa River, ideal for MAR due to their high resistivity and connection to surface water. In contrast, the Jubba River floodplain displayed thinner, more saline-prone sediments, indicating lower MAR potential. These findings guide optimal MAR site selection and future groundwater modeling in the region.
