Abstract

Summary

Determining seismic response characteristics of structures obtained from spectral ratios of microtremors is very important to take precautions against earthquakes. In this study, KTU Farabi Hospital building was chosen to investigate because the building started to slide and deformed 5 years ago. Also, it is located approximately 150 km distance from the North Anatolian Fault which is the most dangerous fault system in Turkey. The microtremor recordings were collected in the building (28 points) and ground (2 points). The recordings were evaluated with Geopsy program according to Nakamura Method. The predominant frequencies were obtained averagely 1.99 Hz for the building and 1.49 Hz for the ground. The resonance risk should be taken into consideration because the frequencies are too close to each other. The damping ratios were calculated by using Half Power Method. The damping ratios are matching with the predominant frequencies and averagely 0.16% for the building.
