Abstract

Summary

We performed seismic and geoelectrical surveys to characterise the geological succession in an area where natural carbonation of ultrmafic rocks occurs. The aim is to understand the role of tectonics in phenomena. The area was never investigated in the past and, given the geological environment, the investigation is challenging. We performed first-break tomography on both P- and S-wave seismic data, reconstructing the geological succession with sufficient detail, despite the low S/N. We then performed electrical resistivity tomography and the results are compatible with those from the seisic data, with some discrepancies. The main geological features have been successfully identified and the position and extension of the mineralised zone determined.
