This work examines the case of surface to inclined borehole and cross-borehole Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) method. Given the complicated sensitivity pattern of arrays associated with such configurations, there is no obvious choice of protocols which could achieve optimal imaging of the subsurface resistivity properties. To address this particular problem, we present an algorithm that generates both comprehensive and optimized datasets for inclined boreholes, either in a cross-hole or in a surface-to-hole mode. The proposed scheme was tested with synthetic and real data from a historical monument in Greece. The results indicate that the presented methodology can provide higher resolution at depth and contribute to an improved interpretation of the subsurface resistivity properties.
