Abstract

Summary

Global Hydrogen production predominantly comes from industrial processes such water electrolysis, methane reforming, fuel cells, ammonia production and by products from oil and gas. Currently, there are multiple global Hydrogen production projects distributed across the globe using the previously mentioned processes. The Hydrogen produced is high in carbon emissions and the technology required to produce it involve high costs. Also, these industrial processes require time to ensure and satisfy the hydrogen and energy market demand. Natural Hydrogen is a fundamental piece of the energy transition strategy, it is clean, renewable and could potentially be used as carrier to obtain low carbon transformations. This study outlines a screening tool that will allow for the identification and risking of natural hydrogen occurrence primarily in oil and gas super sedimentary basins.
