Abstract

Summary

This paper concerns reliable prediction of fractured reservoir properties between wells in Field Development and Production. We present a new integrated geoscience and engineering workflow based around elastic fault-flexure modelling - that provides those reliable predictions.

In this study, we compared the results of our elastic modelling and several common methods of mapping or projecting fracture properties into a reservoir model. Our results show that the elastic modelling approach generates fracture patterns that better resemble natural outcrop analogues, provide the best fit to borehole images, well-test and production data, and enable faster more credible flow simulation results. This gives us confidence in the reliability of our results to steer infill wells in mature fields and to apply the workflow to fields with less production history.
