Abstract

Summary

Improving our understanding of the geological evolution of natural organic matter (OM) is critical for addressing a great many topical scientific issues, such as fossil fuel utilization, natural environmental changes, and the origin of life. To date, the geological evolution of OM has been well investigated in terms of sources and sinks for carbon, however, the exact mechanism of hydrogen transfer during OM maturation at high levels of thermal stress is still not well understood. In this study, we aim to develop a precise and accurate hydrogen transfer model by conducting series of laboratory pyrolysis experiments on three common crude oil types.
