Abstract

Summary

This work established an expulsion kinetic model that is closely coupled to the hydrocarbon generation process. Pyrolysis experiments under three different heating rates were carried out by using the newly developed dual-pressure pyrolysis apparatus. Activation energies of expulsion for C1, C2-C5, C5-C14, and C15+ were calculated by referring to generation the calculation method used for generation kinetics. For expulsion, the larger the molecular weight of the compound, the higher the activation energy for expulsion. This is exactly the opposite of hydrocarbon generation, for which the larger the molecular weight of the compound, the lower the activation energy for generation. This work is a preliminary attempt. The experimental conditions are different from natural system, and the theoretical basis of expulsion kinetics needs further exploration.
