Abstract

Summary

Alpine regions in Switzerland have undergone significant warming, with homogenised records indicating a mean temperature increase of approximately 1°C per century in Valais, Switzerland. High-altitude lakes like Lac de Taney serve as climate archives. This study examines modern alkenone production by haptophyte algae to refine temperature calibration for paleoclimate reconstructions. A high-resolution sampling campaign (March–September 2024) monitored seasonal alkenone. Preliminary results suggest that alkenones could serve as spring temperature proxies, creating an in-situ temperature calibration to improve past climate reconstructions in mid-latitude regions and enhance understanding of environmental factors influencing alkenone production.
