Abstract
Summary
Alpine regions are particularly vulnerable to climate variability generating rapid feedback. The shallow alpine lake called Laguna de Río Seco (LdRS) in Sierra Nevada, southern Iberian Peninsula, is within a climatically sensitive area. In this work, we study the distribution of the molecular fossilized membrane lipids glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraethers (GDGTs) to reconstruct past continental mean air temperature proxy (MAAT), using the last updated lake calibrations. We evaluated the abundance of GDGTs and applied derived-proxies, at different timescales in the LdRS using two sedimentary records and suspended particulate matter, which corresponds with the Holocene, the last two centuries and two-annual cycles, respectively.
