Abstract

Summary

The publication is devoted to the study of temporal changes in the chemical composition of groundwater used by the population of Kherson to meet potable needs. It was established that during the studied period of time (from 2009 to 2021) there were changes in the general chemical composition of groundwater – in the cationic composition there was a transition from calcium-magnesium to sodium-potassium, in the anionic – from chloride-bicarbonate to hydrocarbonate-chloride. A high correlation was found between the amount of water withdrawal and permanganate oxidation and fluoride content. A non-carcinogenic risk assessment was performed using the non-threshold method. It was concluded that groundwater in the Upper Sarmatian deposits have a complex direction of changes in chemical composition, which are determined by a complex of factors. The key role is played by: filtration properties of confining bed; consequences of municipal sewage discharge; lack of centralized sewage within the private sector; supply of surface waters of the Dnieper River; wells design features; operational loads on the aquifer. In general, it can be stated that the qualitative composition of groundwater has undergone significant changes. All these factors give the deposit territory a clearly expressed planar, and in some cases vertical, groundwater hydrochemical zonation.
