Abstract

Summary

Landslides are the most dangerous geohazards in the Transcarpathian region, particularly within the Volovets District. This study applies overlay analysis to assess landslide susceptibility, integrating various geospatial factors. The research area belongs to the Krosno Structural and Facies Zone of the Flysch Carpathians, which formed during the Cretaceous-Early Miocene period. The overlay analysis algorithm involved identifying and digitizing key landslide-triggering factors with geospatial referencing in GIS software. The analysis incorporated nine landslide-controlling factors, including geomorphological parameters (elevation, slope gradient, curvature and aspect) derived from a DEM model. Distance maps were created to assess landslide proximity to faults and river networks, as fault zones significantly influence slope instability. Additionally, landslides predominantly are associated with Oligocene flysch formations along the Latorytsia, Abranka and Slavka rivers. This study provides an integrated approach to regional landslide susceptibility mapping, offering valuable insights for land-use planning, hazard mitigation, and further geotechnical assessments in the Flysch Carpathians.
