Abstract

Summary

The assessment of hydraulic conductivity is crucial for groundwater management and forecasting, as well as for evaluating infrastructure stability and environmental safety. This study evaluates the effectiveness of classical empirical formulas, including those of Kriiger, Kozeny, and Terzaghi, for heterogeneous soil systems, particularly coarse-grained terrigenous-carbonate deposits. The analysis involves a comparison of calculated values with field data from Starokostiantyniv (Khmelnytskyi region, Ukraine).

The results confirm that granulometric composition significantly influences filtration properties, with Terzaghi’s formula demonstrating the best correlation with field measurements for coarse-grained deposits. Based on the findings, conclusions are drawn regarding the potential improvement of rapid assessment methodologies for soil filtration properties, applicable in water resource management and engineering practice.

The outcomes of this study can be utilized for the development of a hybrid model, integrating the advantages of classical empirical approaches with modern machine learning techniques, thereby enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of permeability assessments in complex geological environments.
