Abstract

Summary

In the practice of interpreting the gravity field observed near the Earth’s surface, reliable separation of the regional component caused by the deep structure of the foundation is an urgent task of field separation. The content of the regional component is different from the common concept of the regional background, in relation to which field disturbances are taken as local anomalies caused by sources conditionally upper part of the geological section. But most often, the subject of research is the geological and tectonic nature of anomalies caused by the structure of the sedimentary cover and surface complications of the shallow basement. The group of local anomalies constitutes the content of the local component, the natural complement of which is regional anomalies caused by non-local features of the sedimentary cover structure.

We propose a combined approach to separation of fields into regional and local components, which is essentially gravity modelling of the regional component of the Bouguer gravity anomalies with elements of geological reduction and the gravity inversion solution by the selection method (abbreviated as: separation of fields by the selection method). Field separation by the selection method is considered on a simple example of a model of local and regional homogeneous masses and on a practical example of a deep model of the crustal section of the Ukrainian Carpathians along the Beregovo-Vyhoda profile.
