Abstract
The use of batch processing of Sentinel-1 time series data is proposed for the assessment of provisioning ecosystem services of agricultural lands as an effective instrument in analyzing structural changes in agro-landscapes and assessing ecosystem services. The study outlines approach to batch processing of Sentinel-1 time series data in the context of radar interferometry and backscatter analysis which allow for the examination of crop structure, soil moisture, etc., correlating satellite-derived indicators with ground-based data. To study the temporal dynamics of vegetation changes – a key supplier of ecosystem services – Sentinel-1 radar data (C-SAR) VH polarization was used due to their increased sensitivity to plant structures, covering the vegetation period. By visualizing time-dependent changes in backscatter intensity values for individual pixels over a specified period on a line graph for VH polarization, it was found that the backscatter values for each acquisition date represent the temporal signature of a pixel and serve as a strong indicator of the phenological changes in crops. It also focuses on identifying patterns in vegetation cover dynamics, soil moisture, crop rotation practices, and their impact on agroecosystem sustainability. The proposed approach enhances the accuracy of agroecological monitoring and contributes to the sustainable development of agriculture.
