Abstract

Summary

He main provisions of the conditions for the formation and manifestation of vertical channel deformations for the rivers of the left-bank Dnieper (within Ukraine) are disclosed. Two assessment approaches to their study are applied: continuous - based on changes in the latest river profiles and discrete - based on changes in the water discharge curves Q=f(H) according to hydrological station data. The highest rates of change in the marks of the latest profiles are recorded for the lower reaches of the Samara River (17 cm/year - accumulation of sediments in the mouth area) and the upper reaches of the Sula (approximately 19 cm/year - erosion of the channel).

Estimates of vertical channel deformations based on discharge curves fully confirmed the results of their manifestation according to combined longitudinal profiles. This method gives more accurate results of assessing changes in riverbed levels over many years. The largest average annual subsidence of levels (deep erosion) according to the estimates of discharge curves are observed on the Desna River- village of Rozlyoty (−1.21 cm/year), and the maximum average annual growth levels (sediment accumulation) occur on the Samara River-village of Kokhanivka (+1.24 cm/year).
