Abstract

Summary

In August 2024, significant deformations (vertical cracks with an opening of up to 5 cm and wall displacement, separation of wall blocks, wall tilt towards the slope, etc.) were recorded in area of section 2 of the Defensive Wall around the Near and Far Caves. In order to determine the factors of deformation, a set of electrometric research methods, including electrotomography and the method of natural electric field, was carried out to study areas of high humidity in the area of the Guest courtyard of the “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra” National reserve along section 2 of the Defensive Wall around the Near and Far Caves. The site is located in the sloping (eastern) part of the reserve, where the combination of complex engineering and geological conditions and anthropogenic development creates conditions for the development of dangerous engineering and geological processes.

The results of electrotomography were interpreted using two- and three-dimensional models. Zones of increased humidity, which vary in length and intensity, and their spatial confinement to local depressions, underground galleries, buried structures, a 600 mm diameter drain, and a water supply system near building No. 55, have been identified and often coincide with negative anomalies of the natural field. The necessity of developing compensatory measures to strengthen the emergency sections of the Defensive Wall is proposed.
