Abstract

Summary

The long-term economic exploitation of the lakes in Ukrainian Polissia has significantly altered the hydrographic landscape of the region over the past 160 years, leading to the disappearance of hundreds of water bodies. Among the methods used to study the geoecological condition of lakes and their basins, cartographic monitoring and remote sensing play a significant role.

The research was conducted based on surveys of the water bodies and wetlands of lakes in Ukrainian Polissia. The geo-ecological condition of the lakes was assessed according to the degree of transformation of their areas, taking into account the percentage of wetland coverage. The classification categories were as follows: slightly changed (up to 19%); moderately changed (20–39%); highly changed (40–59%); maximally changed (60–79%); completely changed (over 80%). Based on the degree of transformation of the water areas, the lakes were classified as follows: moderately changed – Lake Bile; highly changed – Lakes Bolotne, Luke, Okunyn, Chakove; completely changed – Lakes Nechymne and Stav. A landscape model of the lake-marsh complex of Lake Stav (located in the Rivne Nature Reserve) was developed.
