Abstract

Summary

In the paper, a research of monitoring methane concentrations in the atmosphere based on remote sensing data (on the example of the Kirovohrad oblast) was carried out. The paper used the online platform Google Earth Engine and the ArcGIS cartographic platform. We found the average amounts of methane in the air over the Kirovohrad oblast from 2019 to 2021 (before the war) and from 2022 to 2024 (during the war). All data are in Mol fraction units. It was mapped and established that in the pre-war period from 2019 to 2021, the maximum methane concentration in the atmosphere of the oblast was 1891.28, and the minimum was 1794.34. It was mapped and established that during the war period from 2022 to 2024, the maximum concentration of methane in the atmosphere of the oblast was 1903.84, and the minimum was 1746.56. The differences between 2022-2024 and 2019-2021 revealed an increase in maximum values by 66.0126 and a decrease in minimum values by -132.221. We constructed a diagram of average values for the years 2019 to 2024 based on the generated indicator data. According to the diagram, methane concentration in the atmosphere is rising, possibly due to a global increase.
