Abstract

Summary

Mudflow processes are a common natural phenomenon that pose a threat to areas with mountainous terrain and significant precipitation. In Ukraine, they are particularly active in the Carpathian region, where 70% of watersheds are prone to mudflows. In 2024, cases of mudslides were recorded in Transcarpathia, causing localized infrastructure damage. Climate change contributes to the intensification of mudflow processes by increasing precipitation intensity and accelerating snowmelt, thereby raising the risk of hydrological disasters.

To analyze and predict these processes, GIS modeling methods and morphometric analysis are utilized. Watersheds were identified using GRASS GIS, and the obtained results were converted into vector layers for further analysis. For each delineated watershed, key morphometric characteristics were determined, including area, average elevation, minimum and maximum elevation points, and the average slope angle.
