Abstract

Summary

This paper investigates the relationships between the lithospheric surface topography and the geoid, as well as the possibility of modeling the paleogeoid for different geologic epochs. The influence of tectonic processes, mantle convection, and mass redistribution on the Earth’s shape is considered. Using modern models of topography, geoid, and paleoreconstructions of the continents, an algorithm for estimating changes in the geoid in the past is developed. The proposed approach allows us to assess the impact of lithospheric plate movement and determine the correlation between topography and geoid. The results obtained can be used to refine models of the Earth’s geodynamic development, predict sea level changes, and improve gravity modeling methods.
