Abstract

Summary

The paper suggests a method for generating current and forecast soil trafficability maps, including those for inaccessible areas. Trafficability is defined according to the indicator used in the USA and most European countries, namely the soil rated cone index. For its calculation, a well-known empirical model that takes into account soil moisture and soil type according to the USCS soil classification system is used. In order to be able to implement the suggested model, according to the data of the SoilGrids global digital soil mapping system the authors using QGIS developed their own USDA and USCS soil maps of Ukraine. Fragments of the received maps are given in the paper. As the source of data on current and forecast soil moisture the Open-Meteo weather service was chosen. To implement the suggested method a QGIS plug-in was developed. The plug-in calculates maps of soil rated cone indices on the basis of the developed soil maps of Ukraine and downloaded soil moisture data. The paper provides an example of such a map.
