Abstract

Summary

The russian military aggression in Ukraine is having a disastrous impact on the geological environment, including the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) dam destruction. The aim of this study was to substantiate approaches to the analysis and assessment of the development of hazardous exogenous geological processes to support decision making for the reconstruction of the territory and post-war economic recovery of Ukraine. The territory has been ranked by the density and frequency of occurrence of different types of processes (karst, slope processes, flooding, loess soils subsidence) using Statistical Spatial Data Analysis with ArcGIS environment and also the area of the territory affected by these processes has been established. The analysis of the obtained map allowed to estimate the areas where the certain number of processes have been developed: one – 47550.0 sq km (76.8%), two – 9661.79 sq km (15.6%), three – 4374.38 sq km (7.09%), four – 314.782 sq km (0.5%) and five – 6.762 sq km (0.01%). To elaborate and assess the economic recovery scenarios for the territory affected by the former Kakhovka Reservoir according to the ‘Build Back Better’ and ‘Build Back Greener’ principles, it is necessary to take into account issues related to hazardous geological processes (monitor, map, model, forecast).
