Abstract

Summary

The study provides new kinematic data from faulted tectonic structures in the southeastern part of the Solotvyn Sub-basin. For the first time, systems of small faults and tectonic fractures in the Neogene deposits of the Solotvyn salt anticline, as well as the first-order Vodytsia fault, were examined. The conditions of occurrence of the fault structures, their kinematic types, correlation with the area’s main faults, mode of formation and their tectonic activation in paleostress fields have been determined. Traditional geological and structural mapping methods were used alongside special tectonophysical methods to study the structures and reconstruct the paleostress fields. To identify systems of disruptive dislocations, measurements of the occurrence of over 150 small faults and tectonic fractures were taken. Statistical processing of field data and construction of structural extension system diagrams and stereograms of the paleostress axes was performed using the Fabric-8 and Win Tensor software. The paleostress field was reconstructed using the kinematic method based on data from tectonophysical studies, slip mirrors of rupture structures and grooves on their planes. Based on the results of geological and structural studies, fault structure systems were identified that either correspond to or are in paragenesis with the main faults of the basin. The tectonophysical studies revealed various types of local paleostress field within the study area. The shear deformation regime was found to be dominant among these fields. This regime is the youngest in terms of relative age. It was during this period that the main faults in the Solotvyn Sub-basin were activated.
