Abstract

Summary

Throughout the lifetime of the field, severe & total fluid loss incidents have occurred in the sandstone lithology at mud weights significantly below the minimum horizontal stress. These incidents have been attributed to hydraulically conductive discontinuities, largely not governed by the far field stresses, however more detailed characterization has not been successful due to a lack of suitable data. In this work, we present high resolution ultrasonic acoustic borehole image data from two different loss incidents that enabled detailed fracture characterization through the use of a recently developed workflow.
