Abstract

Summary

Ultrasonic images acquired while drilling provide critical measurements related to borehole conditions and manifestation of stress-features, such as breakout and drilling induced fractures. However, the logging while drilling (LWD) ultrasonic images have received mixed reviews regarding their applicability to sedimentary interpretation. This study explores the opportunities and limitations of LWD ultrasonic imaging technology, which is increasingly utilized for geomechanics applications.
