Abstract

Summary

ADNOC Onshore planned and acquired a distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) Vertical Seismic Profile (VSP) in order to gain confidence and knowledge for future commercial DAS VSP applications. Rig source location and walkaway multi-offset source data was recorded in a deviated well with multi-mode fibre installed behind the tubing. The VSP operations were performed while the well was shut-in. The well was a Water-Alternating-Gas (WAG) injector, and additional continuous recording measurements were made while the well was injecting.

A number of objectives were set and obtained from the acquired data. These include signal to noise and frequency analysis, well tie to 3D surface seismic, velocity model calibration including anisotropy, VSP PP-up imaging and comparison to surface seismic, and potential impact of injection noise if DAS VSP data was acquired during injection.
