Abstract

Summary

Carbon Capture and Storage requires a robust approach to the management of risk with comprehensive top events prevention and planned consequences mitigations. The acquisition of data is pivotal to effectively validate storage and establish conformance to assure regulatory bodies and stakeholders. Fiber optics were installed into the first CCS well completed within a carbonate saline aquifer in the Middle-East to monitor well performance and the surrounding formation. This paper illustrates the approach to the installation and surveillance techniques utilised to monitor the injection characteristics and CO2 plume evolution.
