Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) in saline aquifers has been identified as critical to achieving the ambitious targets set for the future energy transition. The set of considerations for developing a potential Carbon Storage (CS) site are more complex than in conventional hydrocarbon exploration due to a range of factors. Historically CS has faced two primary challenges; the economic viability of developing a storage site, and ensuring that the carbon dioxide (CO2) is permanently trapped in the subsurface. This study explores both topics in an emerging field of subsurface understanding, highlighting the importance of having an efficient delineation and appraisal strategy.
