Abstract

Summary

Recording seismic in a Transition Zone environment is challenging, both because of operational aspects and of data quality issues. The noise levels and near surface variability would require a high density of receivers to be correctly dealt with, however economical considerations make it difficult.

A challenge for Transition Zone equipment is the timing of the data, as GNSS signal is blocked by water. A solution has been to use cable systems, with their operational drawbacks, or OBN nodes, which have an advanced clock solution but a high unit cost.

We investigate cheaper clock solutions combined with machine learning algorithms that can be implemented in derivates of cheap land seismic nodes, and present results that show the potential of the solution for affordable high density Transition Zone acquisition.
