Abstract

Summary

OBN acquisition combined with full waveform inversion has proven to be an effective combination to resolve the most complex model-building and imaging challenges. A key step in FWI is the modelling of the seismic acquisition, which must be performed to an increasingly accurate degree as we use more of the acquired information at high frequencies. Invoking reciprocity is a common approach; however, it makes several assumptions that may not align with reality. In this paper, we examine how these assumptions can affect the computational demand and efficacy of FWI, and what can be done to mitigate their impact.
