Abstract

Summary

Intrusive structures can often be an issue for hydrocarbon exploration. The Vøring basin Hydrothermal vents (HVTs) are no exception. Mapping accurately and excluding these structures are a key challenge for building geological models.

Overall, more than 140 HVTs have been extracted by using an AI Segmentation algorithm. Their integration into Relative Geological Time models is key to generate automatically and accurately horizons at a regional and local scale; and to analyze the dispersion of the HVTs and their links with local tectonic processes.

Additionally, this semi-automated extraction of HVTs permits to gain a considerable amount of time, decreasing the time needed from a few days to only a few minutes for one HVT geobody generation.
