Archaeomagnetic prospecting and modelling of iron age slags in Denmark

VossThe archaeological reconstruction of how iron was produced from Holocene bog-iron ore and charcoal in Denmark during the lron Age is described. The total number of kilns could to be of the order of 100 000. Search for slags during the last five years by magnetic surveying in general, as well as by magnetic mapping in detail, including simple interactive interpretation by inclined magnetic dipoles (spheres), are illustrated.

A comprehensive resistivity and GPR investigation in a Roman thermal site
More LessThe village of Vizela, Northwest of Portugal, has a important Roman thermal site. Excavations related with sewage system development detected a Roman occupation level at the level of 99m, that was in danger of being damaged. In order to design a suitable sewage system that would preserve the Roman findings a Geophysical survey was carried out.

More LessCommissioned by the Spanish Authority of Culture a geophysical survey using GPR has been carried out in the Roman City Wall of Lugo (Spain). The purpose was the inspection of the City Wall and surrounding areas with the aim of detecting hidden structures of the original building.
