Integrated Structural and Fracture Modeling of Piedemonte area, Eastern Cordillera, Colombia
Authors D.R. Richards, F. Corredor, A.F. Ortiz, G.C. Meza and R. BeltranProduction in the Cupiagua field is at high rates
from generally low porosity sandstone units, suggesting
that fractures make a major contribution to the
production. Maximizing the production through the life of
the field depends on an understanding of the fracture
network and its connectivity. The primary objective of
this study was to integrate all significant data and apply it
to create fracture models, which aid in optimizing
production.

Caño Limón: Una Anomalía Geoquímica Que Podría Representar Un Sistema Petrolífero No Convencional En Colombia. Evidencias E Implicaciones Exploratorias

3-D Seismic Design, Distortion During the Acquisition.
Authors M. Pareja, E. Poveda and G. EspinozaIn 3D seismic acquisition, it could expected that when
the design is drawn on the terrain, the maximum
quantity of stations can be located in the theoretical
points and be conserve in a high percent the
geophysical attributes. Nevertheless, local conditions
–environmental norms and social patterns- restrict the
final location, which implies the individual or multiple
displacements of stations to the locations not planned
in the original design, causing distortion directly to it.

Authors S.E. Guevara, R. Acevedo, C.C. Piedrahita and J.E. CalderónThe 3D seismic method has a huge potential to obtain
structural information in the Eastern Foothills
(Piedemonte Llanero) of Colombia. However its practical
use has been reduced by the rough terrain and complex
geology in this setting, which, among other effects,
generates almost unpredictable wavepaths. This paper
illustrates the application of seismic modelling to test and
optimize the seismic acquisition parameters of a 3D
seismic survey at this zone.

extractos obtenidos.

The Pre-Aptian records of the Putumayo Basin (Colombia): New frontier opportunities for HC exploration in a mature basin?
Authors E.A. Rossello, V.A. Nevistic, G. Covellone, C.P. Bordarampé, R.O. Salvay, L.H. Pina, L. Araque and R.E. GiraudoThe Putumayo Basin is located in the South western of Colombia (total area of 29.000 km2) and continues into Ecuadorian Oriente Basin. In Colombian territory, 395 MBO have been discovered and has yielded 305 MBO, with 105 exploratory wells drilled since 1948 with a success/failure ratio of 26.7 %. The usual reservoir levels are sandstones into the Caballos and Villeta formations (Upper Cretaceous to Paleocene).

Discrete Fracture Modeling of a Llanos Foothills Reservoir, Colombia
Authors A.O. Fernandez, G.D.M. Caceres and D. RichardsAs a result of a new understanding on the geology of a reservoir on the Llanos Foothills of Colombia, it
was conducted a Discrete Fracture Network study based on restoration, validation and structural
analysis having into account geometry and structural kinematics. It involved three general stages: 1)
Adjust on original interpretation of structural model and the geometric attributes of the field, 2)
Restoration and forward modeling of horizons from the original model, and 3) Fracture model generation
close related to outcrop, core and image log information previously collected and rigorously analyzed.

Remaining Hydrocarbon Potential in the Subandean Basins: A Regional Perspective
More LessOver 40 BBOE were discovered in the Subandean Basins of western South America. However few large
discoveries have been made during the last five years, thus rising concerns about the future prospectivity of the
area. This study analyzes the remaining potential of Subandean Basins based on the fractal analysis of
discovered fields as well and on the geographical distribution of the accumulations. Thus, the reserves of
Subandean Basins were combined in latitudinal segments from Tierra del Fuego to Lake Maracaibo with
the assumption that given a common petroleum system, segments of reserves should have an even distribution.
Deviations from this pattern could indicate negative aspects of maturity, absence of source rock, lack of
structures (or timing), or that hydrocarbons remain to be found or have migrated to other areas.

Campanian-Maastrichtian paleogeography and reservoir distribution in the Upper Magdalena Valley of Colombia.
Authors G. Veloza-Fajardo, M. de Freitas and M. MantillaIntegration of stratigraphic, structural, petrologic, seismic, well interpretation and biostratigraphic data
allow for a new interpretation for the Upper Cretaceous sequence of the Upper Magdalena
Valley. Thickness changes among similar depositional environments and between the Neiva
and Girardot Sub-basins (from 130-1300 ft respectively) allow us to constrain Maastrichtian
deformation, previous to Andean deformation.

Anisotropic pre-stack depth migration in the Cusiana and Cupiagua Sur Fields
Authors J. Checa, M. Mesa, N. Burke, J. Calderon, H. Alfonso, U. Egozi, B. Ver West and M. YatesThe eastern foothills of Colombian western Cordillera is a region with a complex structural history that involves
an early shortening parallel to bedding and a folding phase prior to the Andean Orogeny. This was followed
by in-sequence thrusting that produced the main structures and finally a phase of out-of-sequence
thrusting. Seismic imaging of the BP operated Cusiana and Cupiagua Sur fields has been a big challenge since
the exploration phase and as the depletion of the fields continues, the need for accurate event positioning and
focusing becomes more and more critical in order to optimize infill wells location and reservoir management
in general.
