Effectiveness of monitoring by the Transient Electromagnetic method for prediction of Oil migration during production
Authors Pervushina S.A., Gomulskii V.V and Egorov I.V.The paper shows results of onshore electromagnetic studies (TEM) for hydrocarbon exploration in the south-east Asia. Reflects the possibility of investigation by TEM structural forms in the sediments of Eocene age, characterized by high value of conductivity. A feature of this work is that the study of the structure of sediments by TEM was performed in the lack of a priori information (absence of results of drilling due to low degree of area exploration maturity), as well as poor quality of seismic data.

Origin of enigmatic Patom crater (East Siberia) by new geophysical and geological data
Authors Andrey Saviсhev, E. Ermolin and A. IngerovPatom Crater is the modern (ca 500 years old) volcano-like geological edifice comprised of Proterozoic limestone lumps and situated in southern folded rim of Siberian platform. From its discovery in 1949, the crater’s origin remains unclear. Impact factor, volcanic and cryogenic models were proposed. As result of present investigations the geological interpretation of magnetotelluric soundings along 5 km profile across of the Patom crater has been performed. The Patom tectonic zone with the mark of Devonian fluid-metasomatic process has been discovered. The zone breaks the layers of carbonaceous shale of sedimentary host rocks. Absence of records of relatively young and considerable geological processes, as well as other geophysical and geochemical data, leading us to the suggestion about the cryogenic model of the Patom Crater origin, like unusual hydrolaccolith

Prospecting and exploration aspects of reef structures of the Melekessky basin Upper Devonian sediments of the Volga-Ural PNC as an example Novobesovskoye area of Ulyanovsk region
Authors I.Y. Bogatireva, K. Budkin and B.I. YablonovskiyNovobesovskoe field is located in the southeastern part of Melekessky basin and is belong to the axial zone of intraformational Ust-Cheremshansk deflection of the Kama-Kinel system of deflections. Reef generation is less developed and localized in certain areas in depressed parts of KKSP. Precision 3D seismic surveys and a set of geological and geophysical studies, have revealed the organogenic structure in the carbonate sediments of the upper Devonian deposits at Novobesovskoe area. Example of reef generation in the axial zone of Ust Cheremshansk deflection may not be unique and is a prerequisite for further study of this area.

Geomorphology analysis of Kertasari, Brebes district, central Java province; and its application for settlement land use
By S. ParamithaResearch in Kertasari Area, Brebes District, Central Java Province, is expected to generate recommendation map for settlement land use. Kertasari has varied morphology, but land use in this area is not good enough. Data was collected in the field is used to make geological map and geomorphological map. Then, digital data were analyzed to generate slope map, land wetness map, and land cover map. Research area was classified into four lithological units, they are sandstone-siltstone unit, volcanic breccia unit, claystone unit, and alluvial unit. And it was divided into four geomorphological units, they are Pamedaran Synclinal Valley Unit, Pamedaran Synclinal Hills Unit, Kertasari Denudasional Plain Unit, and Kertasari Alluvial Plain Unit. Slope percentage in research area ranged from 0% to 140%. Wetness rate of research area are: flow zone, seep zone, wet zone, moist zone, dry zone. Land cover rate of research area are: tightly covered zone, moderately covered zone, rarely covered zone, bare land. Overlapping these five maps using GIS software generates recommendation map for settlement land use. It divides research area into four zones: very feasible zone, feasible zone, less feasible zone, and not feasible zone. It is recommended to build settlements in feasible and very feasible zone.

Comparison of resolution of various types of electromagnetic soundings
More LessDifferent types of electromagnetic soundings are characterized by different investigation depth, productivity and resolution. For estimation of their resolution capability the curves of residual functions are used. Model calculation are shown that transient EM soundings (used near-field zone) posses the maximal accuracy of 1D geoelectric sections parameters assessment. Slightly worse are MT soundings. Resistivity soundings with symmetric offset are adequate for investigation only of over-shielded sections. As for differentially normalized parameters, they are relatively cruder instrument of resistivity evaluation. Even in the class of polarized strata simple EM curves, calculated with geometry and current normalization are sufficiently better resolved in comparison with DN-parameters.

The anisotropic characteristics of the section on the electromagnetic sounding data for the study of geological structure and objectives of the monitoring of seismotectonic processes
Authors A.E. Shalaginov and N.N. NevedrovaThe main purpose of the paper is the identification and analysis of the anisotropic characteristics of the geoelectric section in the area of research in the village Mukhor-Tarkhan. The choice of the anisotropic model is justified a priori extensive geological, hydrogeological and geophysical information about the structure of the site. Found that the temporal variations of the coefficient of anisotropy, resulting from interpreting geoelectric data, characterize the ongoing aftershock process and can be used for problems of electromagnetic monitoring of seismotectonic processes

dy along Lopatka – Khailino line (Kamchatka Region)
Authors E.D. Aleksanova, A.E. Korobeynikov, A.G. Nurmukhamedov and A.G. YakovlevThe regional-scale magnetotelluric observations were carried out along «Lopatka–Khailino» line in 2007 – 2010. This profile goes from South to North along Kamchatka peninsula. Collected data is to be combined with MT stations, acquired in previous years along a series of profiles, crossing Kamchatka peninsula from West to East. The results of MT-data interpretation are shown. Besides that, in the framework of this project MT observations were repeated within a part of «Korf – Verkhnee Pengino» line (original data was collected in 2004) to study the effect of a strong earthquake, which occurred in this area in 2005. As a result of repeated measurements, the unique MT dataset is acquired, which allows to study the changes in resisitivity structure caused by the earthquake.

Testing TEM system using a large horizontal loop conductor
More LessThe adequate testing of a TEM system has to involve measurements in field with large transmitter and receiver loops and an artificial conductor with controlled transient response. As such a conductor it is convenient to use a large horizontal wire loop terminated to a resistor. The merits of a large loop conductor are the ease of placing out on the ground and the possibility of calculating its transient response. To assess the limitations of a loop conductor as a source of testing TEM signals, the effect of eddy currents in the ground on the transient response of a loop conductor was investigated. This investigation implies that the more resistive is the ground, and/or the smaller are the transmitter and receiver loops, the less the measured transient response differs from the intrinsic response of a loop conductor. Both field measurements and numerical experiments support the validity of using a large loop conductor for testing a full-sized TEM system.

On implementation of noise-like signals in time-domain EM imaging
Authors D.A. Alekseev, B.S. Svetov and A.G. YakovlevThe study concerns the implementation of noise-like (pseudorandom) current signals for primary EM field excitation in time-domain EM imaging. We show that this approach yields better noise cancellation compared to the conventional stacking technique (provided that transmitters’ power and recording time are equal to those in stacking mode). Some results of recovery of the EM impulse response from measured timeseries data based on various processing schemes are demonstrated.
