HenkC035 STRESS FIELD PREDICTION USING 3D GEOMECHANICAL MODELS OF FAULT- CONTROLLED RESERVOIRS Abstract 1 Three-dimensional finite element models are used to predict the magnitude and orientation of tectonic stresses in fault-bounded reservoirs in particular the stress perturbations near faults. Depending on the orientation of the faults relative to the regional stress field the rock mechanical properties and the frictional strength of the fault itself substantial deviations from the regional stress field can be observed locally. Application to a data set from the Husum- Schneeren gas field in northern Germany illustrates the potential of the modeling approach. The study shows that

Abstract 1 Recent field data shows evidence that shear-wave velocity depends on fluid saturation in fractured carbonate reservoirs in contradiction to the well established Gassmann relation. We propose a parameterisation which allows us to make direct comparison between a range of rock physics models and to study predicted differences between the behaviour of carbonates and siliclastics. When fractures are present the rock becomes anisotropic and Gassmann’s relations no longer strictly hold. In general shear wave velocity depends on saturation but extreme sensitivity can be caused either by an aspect ratio effect

The spectral decomposition technology is used to image sandstone reservoirs deposited in channel and delta sedimentary facies. The inverted azimuthal impedance data are used to analyze seismic anisotropy. The results demonstrate a clear relationship between anisotropy anomalies and major faults as well as the coherency attributes. A methodology is then employed to use the anisotropy in constraining the fracture network in the reservoir model. For this purpose an anisotropy-to-reservoir fracture transform is defined by adjusting transmissibility factors between reservoir cells. The Vp/Vs ratio was obtained by comparing P-wave and converted wave 3D seismic data. The flow of interpretation was: P and PS log correlation horizon picking horizon matching (registration) and calculation of Vp/Vs ratio map.
