Abstract
The Limpopo Belt of southern Africa is the oldest and best documented Archaean orogenic belt around the<br>world. Various contentious models have been used to explain the tectonic evolution and present structure of<br>the Belt: ensialic deformation, subduction and continental collision, mantle recycling, and terrane accretion<br>(e.g., Holzer et al., 1999).
