Abstract
The carbonates and evaporites of the Late Permian Khuff Formation form widespread reservoirs across the Arabian plate and concentrate
the biggest gas resources in the world. The material studied includes 1500 samples from outcrops in Iran (Zagros), Turkey, Saudi
Arabia and South China. The objectives of the study were (1) to build a robust biotratigraphic framework based on a detailed description
of algal-foraminiferal biotic content, (2) to characterize the depositional environments and their temporal successions during the Late
Permian and Early Triassic.
