P188 GARDNER'S RELATIONS AND AVO INVERSION Summary 1 AVO inversion is frequently stabilised by constraining changes in velocity and density to obey a Gardner type relation. The penalty for this constraint is that the estimates from inversion become biased. While a single Gardner relation may describe the correlation between variations in velocity and density within a particular rock type it is generally not appropriate to changes from one rock type to another nor is it appropriate to changes in fluid content within a specific rock type.
