Abstract

This study displays the occurrence of seaward dipping reflectors (SDRs) along the Brazilian Continental Margin, which were probably formed during the initiation of the margin. It is based on the interpretation of multichannel seismic lines collected during the Leplac Project, developed to establish the limits of the Brazilian Extended Legal Continental Shelf. The occurrence of the SDRs is quite extensive along the southern Brazilian Margin from Pelotas to Espírito Santo basins. But, apparently, the SDRs are not related to the oceanic-continental crust boundary at the Brazilian Margin, since earlier studies locate this boundary to the west of the SDRs.
