Abstract
Motivated by the lack of a unified theory for the driving force that causes plates movements on Earth and based on the success of some simple models to predict general features of Earth's seismic development we introduce outer gravitational fields as the possible energy providers for such enormous and permanent phenomena. Some known results on faults preferential orientations might give support to the hypothesis. Further experimental base for the consideration of external gravitational fields is supplied by the almost null tectonic activity nearby Earth's poles.
