Abstract

In Campos' basin, in the state of Rio de Janeiro,
the success index in the hydrocarbon exploration
in tertiary reservoirs has been high. That is largely
related to the several techniques of geophysical
search, with prominence in the seismic 3D,
applied during the phases of exploration
development and production. There is, however, a
great potential no explored in turbidictics deeper
Cretaceous, on which the seismic data are not
shown conclusive, being needed, therefore, of
researches more deepened.
This work seeks to accomplish detailed
geophysical studies of the turbidictics deposits
that surface in the part emerged of the Basin of
Almada, considered similar to the turbidictics
reservoirs of Campos' Basin, focusing the
magnetometric method, with the main objective,
the understanding of the structural outline of the
basin and of Rio Almada's canyon.
The sedimentary basin of the river Almada is
incrusted in a small lowered strip, with area of
approximately 200 km2, in the south coastal
margin southern of Bahia, among the parallel of
14° 30' and 15° 00' and the meridians of 39° 00'
and 39° 14'. The basin is divided in two portions,
a continental one and other oceanic one. In the
continental portion it is delimited N and S by the
High of Itacaré and Islanders, respectively. The
sea portion penetrates for the continental platform
for more 1300 km2, where it reaches thickness of
until 6000 m in bathymetric cots of 200 m (Brurn
et al., 1989). Committees the basins of Camamu-
Almada, Jequitinhonha and Cumuruxatiba
understand it denominated basin of the south of
Bahia and they are classified as rifts that
developed for pull-aparts. (Figueiredo et al.,
1986).
