Abstract

Construction and structural elements of the volcanic margin of Argentine are discussed on the basisof deep reflection seismic data. Further, the results of seismic measurements along flow-line traverses across Cretaceous-aged oceanic crust of the South Atlantic. According to our studies most of the South Atlantic divergent margins are volcanic margins characterized by voluminous structures showing a distinct seaward dipping reflection pattern and prominent magnetic anomalies. The ephemeral emplacement of these voluminous constructions occurred during Hauterivian through Barremian in the South Atlantic. Episodes of an intensive production of oceanic crust have been recognized in the South Atlantic during the Albian through early Campanian.
