Abstract
As exploration for hydrocarbon resources moves to increasingly complex geological environments, the integration of multiple physical measurements is needed to build better Earth models. Seismic has enjoyed a long history as the geophysical workhorse in the oil & gas industry for imaging the subsurface and guiding exploration and development decisions. While this still holds true, it has now become clear that multiple physical measurements are needed to build improved earth models, particularly as exploration for hydrocarbon resources moves to increasingly complex geological environments. Examples of challenges are ultra-deep water exploration where drilling risks are high include sub-salt and sub-thrust exploration where seismic imaging faces significant problems.
