F-40 COMPARISON OF RAY THEORY AND FINITE- FREQUENCY WAVE THEORY IN CROSSWELL Abstract 1 I make a comparison between ray theory and finite-frequency wave theory in a realistic crosswell tomographic laboratory experiment from Durham University. The true velocity model shows small-scale structures for which ray theory is not valid. That is why the estimated velocity model compiled with ray theory lacks high-resolution in the image of the small-scale structure. On the contrary this small-scale structure is clearly visible in the velocity model inverted with finite-frequency wave theory.
