Abstract

When reservoir characterization is performed using marine CSEM methodology based on real survey data, usually the ‘true’ answer is unknown, and therefore improvements in workflows are based on subjective assessment of the results. A better approach to test and improve workflows is to use a synthetic model where the model is known. We try to achieve this by using the SEG SEAM model and the CSEM data set derived from it, in an 'blind test' set up. Step by step, starting with 1D analysis and moving through 2.5D, ultimately to 3D interpretation, we have obtained consistent interpretation results about the simulated prospect. Improvement of the interpretation procedure also has been achieved.
