Abstract

The Mishrif Formation in the studied wells is a result of continuous deposition on shallow carbonate platform that developed throughout the middle Cretaceous in South eastern Iraq. Petrographic study and microfacies analyses distinctly revealed six main subenvironment. These are lagoon, back shoal, shoal, Rudist biostrome, slope and basin environments.According to logs interpretation, Mishrif Formation is divided into seven reservoir units separated by dense limestone of seal beds. The reservoir units MA, MB11, and MB13 are the most important in Amara field because it is characterized by good reservoir properties and represent the principle oil bearing units in Mishrif Formation.
